#81--gum and other stuff (the pig!!)

How many of you out there chew gum? Have you tried many flavors, or do you stick to what you know? Here in Korea it is interesting to see the many varied flavors one can try should they choose to do so. Just a few nights ago I had the dubious pleasure of chomping on a piece of coffee flavored gum. I was glad they decided people would like the taste of milk and sugar coffee as opposed to black coffee (though I prefer to drink it black) as I am not sure I would want to chew something quite that bitter. It was actually not a bad flavor: a delicate balance of coffee and sweetness. I highly recommend it.

Another flavor (or should I say flavors)  I have not seen in the States are the floral flavors. Yes, that is floral in the sense of flowers. It seems that these different flower flavors find fascination in folly focused minds of youth. (I couldn't help the alliteration.) Some of them are alright, but most are too sweet for me. Try them if you like, but don't expect too much.

Today was an interesting day after the holiday. I was supposed to get paid, but the director thought I was not there this evening, so she returned the money to Mr. Kong. I have to wait until tomorrow after kindergarten. Not a bad thing as this gives me time to go to the bank at lunch I would not have been able to go any sooner anyway.

I asked my 4:30pm class what they did over the weekend, and one proceeded to tell me. She is always giving long answers and using the white board to help in her explanations as her English isn't all that good. It was her grandfather's birthday and she went to the island where he lives to celebrate with him. In honor of this, she stood by while he plunged a knife into a pig's chest. According to Hazel, the pig screemed and blood sprayed everywhere. They then decapitated it and hung the head up to drain.

They did the same with the legs. Before they hung the body up, they took the innards out, making sure to keep the liver and intestines to the side. These they roasted over the fire and ate. It was a rather gruesome story to hear her tell it, especially in her broken English. I thought I was going to be sick. I did turn red again, but that may have been because I am under too much stress.

I will let you go now. I just thought you would want to here the story. I hope you weren't eating at the time.
